There is, obviously, a way you can enjoy playing pool on your terms. Just to clarify, I’m being a little sarcastic here. A place where you determine the hygiene levels. If only there were a place where you make the rules, where you play the music. If only there were a way to recreate this in an environment of your own design. Now compare that to the amount of time you actually had a cue in your hands, leaning over the table, enjoying the rush of a hotly contested game against a friendly opponent. Think of the amount of money you’ve spent on coin slots, drinks, and transport. Why do we put ourselves through this? The investment-to-fun ratio is untenable. You have to wait an hour before you get to play, and when you eventually get your turn, you’re facing off against some hero with a monogrammed cue who’s been dominating the table since the late 90s. The sound system is controlled by someone who thinks Ed Sheeran is the next David Bowie. The floors are covered in a hybrid layer of spilled beer and sweat.
